Title: My Art Book
Purpose: To chart student progress and collect their work in a unique, book-style portfolio.
Time Period: 1 class (30 minutes) per page


Week 1/Page 1: Secondary Colors
Supplementary Literature: ÒThe Hungry CaterpillarÓ by Eric Carle
Project: The students will create their own caterpillars using circles, which are the secondary colors.
Objectives: To introduce secondary colors and review circle shape recognition and creation.
Standards: VA: Perform 2, 3, & 4, Create 1, Connecting 1

Project: Hands-On mixing paints to create colors. Emphasis on material discovery
Objectives: To understand that you can mix the primary colors together to create the secondary colors. Also to discover, play, and become comfortable with the medium.

Colors

Artist Reference:
Frankenthaler
Project: Create little clouds with watercolor diffusion. Students will paint on top of paper towel to create designs when dry. Students will use blue, green, and purple to make their cool color clouds.
Objectives:
Understand Cool Colors and use similar techniques as artist Frankenthaler.

Project: Create mice from brown and gray torn construction paper. Make Fredericks home all around him.
Objectives: Learn and understand neutral colors, brown and gray. Also, try new torn paper technique.
